Padstow – popular harbour village at the river Camel, narrow winding lanes and fishing cottages. Famous for it's Lobster Hatchery and the restaurants of TV-chef Rick Stein. North of the town is Prideaux Place where the Prideaux-Brunes have lived for 14 generations.
Five Rosamunde Pilcher films have been shot at Prideaux Place , a record! “Coming Home”, “Cliffs of Love”, “The End of Summer”, “The long Road to Happiness” and in 2005 “Magic Night”. “Usually a location is only chosen once for filming”, explains Peter Prideaux-Brune, “but it is a tradition now”. The stately home features as manor, 5 star hotel and castle. 70% of the coach business visiting the house is now tourists on the tracks of Rosamunde Pilcher. So they have employed three German speaking guides. Often he welcomes them in his morning suit, which visitors love! The landlord gets deeply involved with the filming, he lets them use his vintage cars and always takes a minor role. Last time he played the tourist guide, showing the actors around his own home. Sometimes he wonders what many Germans must think of England, when the captain of industry arrives at the 5-star hotel in a vintage sportscar wearing a leather helmet strapping the old fashioned leather luggage to the boot. A lot of scenes take place in the oval room in the southern wing. This is where the grandmother lives and usually dies. You can now stay here for Bed & Breakfast. The five star accommodation costs £ 500.00 and includes the company of the landlord and landlady Peter and Elisabeth Prideaux-Brune.
